Each and every one of us have been tested both physical and mentally during this never-ending isolation, however the truth is it’s here to stay for who knows how long. Although all of our lives have been reshaped there are ways we can overcome this and still have fun. Below you will find 3 tips to help you through these difficult times and hopefully bring some light back into your life.
Tip 1: Go back to your roots, find your joy!
We all have the one thing in life that we absolutely love to do but other ‘priorities’ and life in general gets in our way. Have a real think about; it could be something you used to as child or something you used to recently and stopped for some reason. We all have something, whether it be baking, painting, home DIY’s etc. Going back to the roots of who you are has never hurt anyone. Finding that thing that gives you joy will only help brighten up these difficult times. We are all different and like different things. Using myself as an example. during this time of isolation instead of locking myself in my room and doing nothing in my spare time, I am using my 5km radius and riding again and having fun like I used when I was younger; it’s my escape, so what yours?
Tip 2: Set yourself goals both daily and weekly
Everyone is experiencing this rough time of the year differently. Each and every household has its own story. Use this time to work on you. Set yourself small goals that are practical, fun and keep you accountable each and every day. For example:
- Today I am going to aim for 10,000 steps.
- I am going spend a day outside.
- I am not going to binge watch something.
- I will not eat the entire pantry in one sitting.
Set yourself a few daily goals and aim to achieve them. If you achieve even just one you have achieved something in that day and the day hasn’t been wasted. Similarly set weekly goals. Be ambitious and aim big so then you have something to work towards. No one wants to waste another day doing nothing, putting your mindset in an even darker place. So much has already been taken away from us, so don’t waste the time we have, aim to do better.
Tip 3: Take control of what we can control
Our patience has been truly tested during this ‘lovely’ lock-down, we are literally trapped in our 5km radius and our lives have been reshaped forever. The more we want to rebel the more we are not going to get anywhere. Sometimes it’s not about marching into battle, but taking control of what we can control from a distance. We have all be set these rules which have told us where we can go, what we can do etc. but what we are forgetting is that although a lot has been taken away from us we can still do so much. Take control of what YOU can control. You can control what you do daily. You can control your lock-down experience; yes it is easier said than done but when you can actually embrace what we have left you’ll be amazed at what you can actually do. Think about it, you CAN train virtually to stay healthy. You CAN spend your free time doing whatever YOU want to do because it makes YOU happy. Go back to basics and embrace the perks of life. Although we are all tackling this lock-down differently, you can control your actions and do things that YOU want to do; the ingredient are right in front of you, you just haven’t used them yet.
