The biggest problem I see with clients chasing their goals, is giving up too quickly. It has taken ‘x’ amount of time for you to be where you are today. You need to allow the necessary time it will take for you to get to where you are aiming. Don’t be in a rush and don’t give up, if it isn’t happening for you yesterday. You need to persevere until the job is done. And take a look at who you are spending the most amount of time with. If you are associating with people that hold you back, that don’t clap for you when you succeed, that don’t encourage and support you working towards your goals, it is time to let them go, or limit your exposure.
Patience:
We would all love to achieve our goals in 5 minutes. Unfortunately, life doesn’t quite work that way. Some things can take weeks, months, even years. For example, if you are wanting to drop 20kg, wanting it to happen in a month is not only not realistic, it is actually not very healthy for your body.
Create some realistic goals and expectations on how long roughly, it should take, based on what is a realistic achievable result each week. Then be patient. Continue to do the tasks you need to consistently each week, that will bring you those results.
Be patient and trust the process. Don’t chop and change your tactic. Follow the plan and understand that things take time.
Perseverance:
As frustrating as it can be, sometimes life gets in the way redirecting us and creating road blocks for our goals. This is not the time to give up. This is the time to re-evaluate your plan and establish if it is still suitable in line with life’s challenges. You may need to be change around some of the tasks in your plan, possibly even come up with a new plan altogether.
Create strategies for overcoming your roadblocks. Don’t let them make you give up. Remember ‘If at first you don’t succeed, try, try, again.’ That cliché is a cliché for a reason; it is reality.
Look at ways to improve what you are doing.
Ask yourself, am I really sticking to the plan 100% or am I only committing 90% and therefore only getting 90% of the results.
Persevere. Don’t give up.
People:
Surround yourself with people that will make it inevitable for you to succeed. Surround yourself with people who uplift you, make you smile, make you laugh, wipe your tears, hug you that little bit tighter. Share yourself, with those that share your values. Limit your exposure to those that hold you back. If you can, remove them from your life altogether.
