Results are something we all want but what are results? Results are essentially the end product of all the time and energy we put in to reaching our goals whether they be something big or something small. In the health and fitness industry often many people and businesses publish a person’s physical accomplishments however a person’s strengths cannot always been seen on a BCA (Body Composition Analysis) or within their measurement sheets. A person’s transformation essentially changes their lifestyle whether it be physical, mental, emotional or even social. when referring to a person’s transformation we look at all the concepts that play a part in a person’s end results whether it be referring to physical changes, mental changes or relationship changes etc. All in all these changes are held back or driven by the mindset you possess. To make long lasting results, you are required to have a viable, healthy mindset to create change.
Perception:
My first point of reference that I would like to address regarding creating the mindset behind achieving the results is ‘perception’. A person’s perception is essentially the way we see, hear and become aware of certain things whether it be something related to ourselves, someone else or to something in general. For example, when you look at a glass of water that only contains half of its total amount, is the glass half full or half empty? Depending on perception will depends on what you see and what you think is your answer. Reality is we all see things differently; we all can see things that others may not ever understand or envision for themselves and that my friend is their perception about themselves. A powerful quote you may have heard is “When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change” – this simply one liner can create waves and even be an eye opener, if you’re open to the meaning of it. Stop thinking so narrowly, look outside the box, start changing your perception, open your eyes to the possibly that what you want, can be achievable.
As individuals you need to stop putting things in the too hard basket, stop insisting that you don’t have time. You all make the time to change to accommodate for others, but you don’t make time when it comes to our own life. For example, if someone has a family event or party you always make it work, so why don’t we make time for our own lives to work in line with what we want. A person’s perception can dictate the direction in which a person results move. The journey someone takes and the ‘task’ required to achieve their desired results, can be impacted by your perception. If you see the necessary steps, like switching up nutrition, training or even breaking old habits, as something extremely difficult, you see these minor tasks as something that is “too hard” or “never going to happen”, that is your perception holding you back. Your mindset and thinking pattern is what is holding you back from your future changes. In order for the magic to happen you need to be comfortable with being uncomfortable, by stepping outside of your comfort zone, be open to make the changes you need in order to achieve what you have always wanted.
Perception is a key contributor to the way we react and way we do things in our everyday life. If you change your perception you are changing your mindset, you are even possibly strengthening it to help you achieve what you desire most. If we link perception and our mindset together it can drive us to make change, help us overcome barriers and obstacles that once stopped us in our tracks. Shifting your perception to help create positive change, to create the movement and momentum to help point you in the right direction. Reality is everything in life can be done but it depends on how you see the task ahead of you.
Thinking like a beginner:
My next point that helps towards contributing to creating the mindset behind achieving the result your most desire, includes “thinking like a beginner”, embracing your beginner’s mind. Every single person benefits from starting at Level 1, no matter who you are no matter what level of qualification you may have. Everyone benefits, embracing your “beginner’s mindset” doesn’t necessarily mean think like a newbie; it means that no matter what you still “show up” with an open mind setting aside superiority and ego and be open to what you are about to learn. This means that regardless of how many workshops, classes, PT sessions, or nutrition consults you participate in you are ‘open’ to learn new information. The perks and meaning behind having a “beginner’s mindset” means that you stay open to treat each idea as a fresh idea. That you review familiar ideas as if it were the first time you have seen or heard of them. Thinking like a beginner allows you to notice where you take shortcuts and identify when and where you skim and miss ideas with the classic ‘I already know all of this’ line Now it’s not to say forget everything that you’ve learnt, it’s about being open to understanding and learning more information, picking up on the small things that a lot of us forget over time, and it’s usually those small things that make a huge difference in the long run. Be open, be mindful have a beginner’s mindset.
Building Blocks and Barriers:
My final point I would like to speak to you all about is the “Building Blocks and Barriers” a person faces that contribute to the growth of someone’s mindset to help achieve what they most desire. Barriers and Building Blocks are the things that either try stop us in our tracks or help us move forward. We all want to excel in life, we all want to achieve our long term and short-term goals, but like any journey we start, there is always going to be time in which we come face to face with challenges and roadblocks that attempt to stop us in our tracks. In order to achieve the results, you most desire you must overcome these barriers and create the building blocks in order to move forward. This is the same when it comes to strengthening our mindset to help us work in the directions of the results we want.
A Building Block are something that helps lift us up, it can be something physically and/or metaphorically working in our favor. We all need building blocks in order to move forward and in the direction we want to move. An example of a building block can include those around you who build you up and support you through your journey or can be anything that you use as a resource to create pathways and stepping stones toward to your goals such as workshops, consultations, books, written or verbal resources. Building blocks essentially help build and strengthen our mindset which we all need to in order to make that journey towards the results you most desire. On the other hand, barriers can include anything that attempts to stop us in our tracks, they can be physical such as an injury or illness,s they can be mental such as comments, unwanted thoughts, unhealthy relationships etc. Barriers are something we all face; barriers are the hardest to overcome because it’s our mindset that helps us decide whether we keep on going or whether they stop us in our tracks and prevent us from achieving the goal we most desire.
When anyone comes faced with a barrier it can have the potential to set us back anywhere between 1 to 10 steps. Regardless if the challenge is something physical like an injury, illness, unable to get to the gym, busy life or whether it be something mental such as old school thinking methods, giving up on yourself, feeling stressed etc. Everything adds up, everything has the possibility to damper the strength of our mindset. The mindset you need to create, the mindset you need to build to overcome these barriers, is something that can help you keep moving forward towards your goals and targets. Keep in the back of your mind that although barriers are something that tried to stop us, they can also be seen as something that helped us realise how strong our mindset actually is. Sometimes there is a silver lining you just need to be open to the thought that your enemies actually are your allies.
Stepping aside from the obvious barriers and building blocks we all can relate to, we as individuals need to understand that although our paths may not be as simple as travelling from point A to point B, your journey keeps on going, your destination is still in your sight you need to simply pivot, redirect and take different avenues in order to get to where you want to go. That is why acknowledging our strengths as well as weaknesses and banding together to overcome them can help build that mindset we all need in order to help us transform as an individual whether it be something physically and or mentally. Life will throw you curve balls and these curve balls in one way or another reshape our scope on life. The curve balls you may face are something you need to learn to overcome and work through. Yes sometimes we are faced with things we have no control over. For example, we are all living through a pandemic, however there is always going to be that one thing that you can control such as when you sleep, what you eat, who you talk too, the way you think and the way you feel. Each and every curve ball can be seen as either a Barrier or a Building Block depending on your perception of things (see that link there). We will have many opportunities for you to learn and take the path of personal development so embrace it because your own self-worth will help you build the mindset you need to cross that finish line. When things get rough you don’t want to find yourself stuck in a physical and emotional ‘rut’ because it’s these trenches that are the hardest to rise up from. That’s the same when it comes to your mindset.
In order to achieve the results you want you need to acknowledge both your Building Blocks and your Barriers; you need to embrace the true meaning behind these building blocks and barriers and how they impact your life and your mindset. All of the barrier and building blocks that you as an individual face, play a part in the mindset you have, and the journey you take through personal growth to build the mindset you need to create, in order for you to get the results you want. These building blocks and these barriers can be listed on a never-ending list however if you change the way you think of these things are you change your perception. Be open minded and mindful that not everything is the same for everyone; the same way again you are embracing your beginner’s mindset allowing your mindset to grow and strengthen itself in more way than one. So take every opportunity both good and bad and focus on the positive side of things because if you constantly see the bad in things then you are constantly blocking yourself off from personal development, from that personal growth that you need in order to develop that mindset that will help you create the results you want. Don’t be afraid to challenge yourself and take the necessary steps required to get to where you want to go in life.
Build that mindset and you will see the changes in you and your results, embrace these concepts and you will see your personal transformation affect you physically, mentally and emotionally!
