Jessica has made huge changes in regards to her nutrition and this has caused a chain reaction in her life. As a result I see a more confident, vibrant person in and out of class! I am beyond proud of the person that I have coached and I absolutely cannot wait to see what she achieves next!
Jessica and I have only recently started to work together and in these last 6 weeks we have made life changing discoveries that allowed us to learn more about her body and her underlying intolerances that were once recognized. Jessica’s determination has brought out the better version of her; not only is she looking amazing but she is also feeling fantastic! Congratulation Jessica on all your huge achievements!
Let’s keep the ball rolling and see what we can achieve next! Phenomenal work Jessica! – Coach Emilia
4.6kg down and counting, here is Jessica’s story in her words:
“I joined TF in January 2020 after my close friend became a member.
I had been working out on my own at home 6 months prior to joining TF but my body was not changing at all. The first move is always the hardest move. I sent TF a message and they invited me in to look at the studio. I was impressed with the facility, the class options and the fact that it was 5 minutes from home.
I joined because I needed something for me. I am a single mum who works full time and my life was dedicated to everyone else around me. I wanted something new and exciting for me and the time had come. I have 3 children between 10 and 15 who were now a little more independent and self-sufficient and that meant that I could leave them at home for 1 hour whilst I went and did a workout.
I was nearing 40 and even though I had been blessed with a naturally smaller frame and had never had to worry about losing weight, I felt that my body was changing. After my 3 children my body bounced back to pre-baby weight without a problem, but I was also a lot younger.
My biggest lesson and what joining TF did for my mental state was realizing that it’s ok to do something for you. I have and always will be a hands-on mother who without a doubt puts my children first. And I realized that I needed to be a fit and healthy mum with a good mental state so that my children could be in a good mental state. If I’m not good, then they are no good. It’s that aeroplane example; save yourself so that you can then save your children. And it finally clicked.
I have overcome many challenges that life has thrown at me. I have a very strong mindset and a “just keep going” attitude. I am lucky that I have never had any health challenges, however, I have been able to push through that mental barrier at times when some of the exercises are tough. My biggest challenge was allowing myself to put me first. My children now know that I need to work out not only for myself but for them too.
Over the past 6 months I have developed a real love and passion for working out. I started very slowly with doing 1 class per week at TF. I would try a mixture of classes including XFB, Bootcamp, THT and Cardio resistance. My favorite is XFB, purely because I have a lot of energy and this class just hits the spot. I started with 23 burpees in 1 minute 6 months ago and now I am at 31 burpees.
My nutrition really needed to change, hence why I signed up for nutrition coaching. I was your classic snacker. I would have breakfast which was a usual carb type breakfast, lunch would always be tuna salad and dinner was whatever was going. It was the times in between where I would sit with biscuits and dip and anything savory that I could get my hands on.
Every night I would bloat, become crampy and become gassy. My son would laugh every time I showed him my “nighttime” stomach because it really did look like baby Number 4 was coming!
Since starting my nutrition bootcamp, part of the nutrition coaching program, I have learnt to eat to fuel my body. I caught my daughter telling her friend “that my mum has lost 4kg. She is doing really good now, she used to workout and then eat pizza!” This was actually true.
I now look at it like an engine which needs the right amount of nutrients for it to run properly. I have lost 4.6kg and I now work out 5 days per week (because I am at home) I walk every day for 30-45 minutes as it clears my mind and allows me to refocus on important things.
I have no bloat, no eczema, no gas and no wind. Just a body which I am working hard for because it’s the only one we get.
Nutrition bootcamp has been a life changer for me. When I met with my coach we discussed the possibility of me being intolerant to eggs, so we decided to omit those alongside with the usual food groups that are omitted during the strict 2 week bootcamp. These being; dairy, gluten and sugar.
My coach was with me every step of the way. I would send her my meal plans so that she could check them. It took me about 5 days to really get my head around the “fat” options and what to cook my meals in. I also felt a little light headed as my body was detoxing and I was losing scale weight quite quickly. I dropped 1.6kg in 3 days. This was bloat and inflammation.
I was now eating 4 nutritious meals per day with a mix of protein, carbs, veg and good fats. I did this strictly for 2 weeks. I was not hungry at all, and there was only 2 days when I felt like I wanted “something” but that quickly passed. We discovered that capsicum did not agree with my body after 2 trials within the 2 week phase. It gave me upper abdomen pain.
Once the 2 weeks had finished the first food group we tried was egg. I made an omelet for breakfast and then waited. That day I experience several symptoms; burping, a sore upper abdomen that then turned into full stomach pain by the evening. The next morning I ran straight to the toilet and for the next 2 days, I could not wait for the egg to be out of my system. This reaction was my body literally saying, “I don’t want this food”.
The next thing to try was dairy. I had a full cream latte at 10am that morning. I felt a little queasy but that feeling quickly passed. It was the evening when I started scratching up my arm and developed eczema. I had not had one itch or scratch for 3 weeks. This is what the dairy had done to my body and it was coming out in my skin.
My overall experience with nutrition bootcamp has been amazing. It has taught me to eat to fuel my body and has shown me food groups that my body did not want. My coach was there for me 24/7 and I didn’t realise how much of their time went into something like this.
I workout 5 days per week with a mixture of TF online zoom classes and the workouts from the training app. The zoom classes are like being in studio, the energy and the dedication from the trainers has not changed. They are providing wonderful workouts which burn just as many calories as I would if I were in the studio.
TF is a community, which I realised, was lacking in all the other places I had tried over the years. I have been a member of numerous gyms and at one stage I had a PT. The support I receive from my fellow TF family is amazing. We support all wins, no matter how big or small they are, we support one another. We lift one another and we are positive with one another. When you are surrounded by like-minded people it has a wonderful effect on your mindset. ” – Jessica Bedelis
