43 year old Danny joined TF 12 months ago. His wife Lisa was already a member and wanted a regular cardio boxing partner. She convince Danny to join and the rest is history. From here Danny moved on to participate in personal training and upgraded to unlimited group fitness classes.
When Danny first joined he was unable to perform push-ups due to an old wrist injury. He was unable to perform squats or lunges due to knee pain, suffered back pain and was carrying a bit of extra weight that made him feel a little sluggish.
As a result of Personal Training and group fitness Danny has seen some incredible results over the last 12 months. These include:
- Improved posture and mobility. Danny is now able to move more freely without joint restrictions or pain, despite historical injuries. This enables him to perform a variety of exercises that he previously needed to abstain from, due to lack of movement. He can now do push-ups, squats and lunges with no restrictions.
- He has a reduction in his waist of 15cm and a drop of 4kg on the scales
- His body composition has changed dramatically, dropping body fat and gaining muscle
- An increased stamina and fitness sees him now doing back to back classes that was unimaginable when he first joined
Danny’s hard work and dedication has certainly paid dividends and is giving him a better quality of life. As his coach, I couldn’t be more proud if I tried! This man is an absolute machine, and an absolute legend!
Prior to joining TF Danny had always been involved with sport, participating and coaching kids. He was an avid NRL participant and spectator and absolutely loved it.
A number of injuries however prevented him from progressing and limited his abilities.
After starting Personal Training we worked very closely on improving Danny’s posture and mobility using a variety of methods. Exercise selection and programming were based around increasing range of motion in his back, shoulder blades and hips. These areas were completely jammed up. Years of NRL had taken its toll.
Using a variety of exercises to activate weak muscles, loosen tight muscles and mobilize rigid joints enabled us to increase the range of motion in his joints. It helped his muscle movement improving his posture and overall stability which meant he was eventually able to move safely, and with much less pain, if any.
From here we progressed to building his fitness and strength and increased the variety of exercises he was able to participate in. Today, Danny has almost no restrictions.
From a nutrition perspective, Danny didn’t really understand much about what ‘clean eating’ was when he first started at TF. However after Nutrition Coaching as part of PT he picked things up very quickly. Being the person who cooks in his household, he had total control of what he ate each day, and started making much wiser choices.
We tried to make it as simple as possible. The plan was to simply ensure that his plate always contained a source of protein, good fats and a huge array of vegetables. Carbs were kept in for post training, though limited as we quickly discovered, with our food elimination process, that he did better with less carbs. Not everyone is the same. Some people function better with more carbs. Danny needed less.
Through the food elimination process we also identified food Danny was sensitive to and he made the choice to cut them out, as he felt better without them. He did however, still enjoy his Friday night drinks, because after all, life is for living.
As a result of his nutrition changes and exercise regime, Danny’s body composition changed dramatically.
It was nothing too dramatic, we kept it simple, yet effective.
Danny, you are an absolute pleasure to train, you have me in stitches of laughter and always keep me on my toes. I absolutely love training you and am honored to share your journey and success with you! Congratulations legend! You friggen rock!
“As a father of 3 active boys I’ve always strived to be their role model, setting a good example in all aspects of life. As far as sport and fitness goes, I am very passionate, and have participated in team sports from a very young age. I’m also passionate about youth sport and fitness, and have volunteered in community sports over the years coaching Footy, Cricket and Little Athletics. I have always considered myself to be a fit person, however, 12 months ago I found myself in a hole, feeling like there was no time for me to focus on my own health and mental well-being. I was stacking on the weight and feeling extremely unfit, unwell and sluggish. My relationship with the local gym was non-existent, yet my bank account suggested otherwise. I knew I had to do something. I’d spent my youth being at the peak of my game, both from a mental and physical perspective. The challenge this time around was doing it at 41 years of age, with a solid list of injuries (back pain, poor posture, mobility issues, knee and wrist). Playing Rugby League for 19 years will do that to you!!
My wife Lisa had been training with TF, and for months, tried to convince me to join. I made so many excuses as to why I didn’t want to until she told me she needed a boxing partner. I was sold on the idea and loved my first session. I never thought group fitness was my thing, but I was made to feel so comfortable from the moment I walked in to the studio. Within 4 weeks I felt it was time to step it up and be serious about my health, becoming a Platinum Member. I found myself doing 3-4 classes a week and then added PT with Terri on Saturday mornings.
During my initial PT assessment Terri had recognised a very prominent curve in my spine. At 19, I was diagnosed with Scheuermann’s Disease, ending my Rugby career. I have dealt with this disease since then, being told by doctors, that it would put me in a wheel chair if I continued with contact sports. Terri went about implementing back strengthening and straightening exercises and within weeks started to feel and see results, the exercises were paying off. I was so shocked by the results, which inspired me for my next challenge – working on my internal digestive problems. This is when the Nutrition discussion started. I’ve always been a reasonably healthy eater but quickly found out that I wasn’t eating enough food, the right food, and at the right times. After weeks of re training my body to eat at regular intervals and ensuring I was eating enough, along with the discovery of my Gluten allergy, has helped to fuel my body, drop weight and cm’s, and most importantly, I started feeling great.
Not only do I feel great, I feel part of a community – I’m surrounded by people who inspire me to work hard but have fun doing it. For the first time in 20 years, my weight has dropped to under 90kgs, and I’ve lost 15cm off my waist, and now fitting into clothes I said to my wife I’d keep in case one day I lost weight!!
With my wife by my side, I’m now living my core values of being a role model for my children. But most importantly, personally, my quality of life is so much better.
I’m forever grateful for the impact Terri and her team have had on mine and my family’s lives so far. I have learnt so much about health and nutrition, and TF have provided me with the tools to use for the rest of my life. I look forward to training even harder over the next year and kicking even more goals.”
