Gabrielle came to Terrific Fitness searching for some guidance for better lifestyle habits to improve her health. Looking for structure in her eating patterns and to take control of her health. Gabrielle had broken sleep patterns, irregular bowel movements, wanted to know how to read food labels, make the difference between good and bad food choices, and structure a food pattern that would make an overall difference to her health. She wanted a better relationship with food. Weight loss and shaping not as important but would be pleasing as a result when new practices developed.
So embarked on a stringent regime of clean eating and developing the skills of preparing and setting out a food plan whilst learning along the way. As her coach, it was laid out and an accounting process of daily interaction, message conversation and food diaries, began a process of a day by day pattern that developed Gabrielle’s habit forming.
One of Gabrielle’s strongest attributes are her persistent thoughts of application, determination to make a difference to herself, will power and adherence. She knew what she had to do, and the reason for doing it. Withdrawals from processed foods, diet cola drinks (used to be everyday) and picking and grazing habits were hard to break, but she gave it her best shot and stayed true through the 2 week nutrition plan called the ‘boot camp’ phase.
By the end of the boot camp restrictive eating phase, she had achieved the following:
- No more diet cola drinks at all
- Structured eating plan and preparation regime (daily)
- More conscious of water intake and accountability
- Sleep patterns improved
- 5.2 kg weight loss
- 8cm loss from her waist
- 4cm loss from her hips
Other bio feedbacks in menstrual pattern, libido, stress levels to name a few, all on the improve.
A further 2 weeks of food allergy and intolerance testing followed, with phase 2. The 2-week boot camp phase saw Gabrielle’s hormones reset and showed how certain foods reacted, such as gluten, dairy and sugars of various types. Processed fast foods had an adverse effect and highlighted a cause of distress to the body that Gabrielle didn’t understand, until now.
By the 3rd Consult, 4 weeks after beginning the program, Gabrielle had:
- 15cm loss from her waist
- 13cm loss from her hips
A satisfaction of achievement from gaining the experience of knowing her body better, how food changed her, the disciplines and accountability required to form her habits and the great feeling of what its like to fit into clothes better.
Throughout this entire period of approximately 4 weeks of food resetting, preparation and guidance, Gabrielle has built her knowledge of food, what she has reactions too, how to account, how to read food labels and what to avoid. The daily check ins and conversations with me, were invaluable to the successes she has achieved. Battling through winter virus, a bout of Covid (and home bound isolation), caring for her ill child (Lillie) and the struggle through solving bowel movements, Gabrielle remained true to her goals and disciplines and making changes for the better. Congratulations Gabrielle.

“I found I had a really unhealthy relationship with food and dieting. I’ve tried so many different ‘diets’ and always ended worse than when I started. After my Dr recommended I see a dietitian I decided to go down this path, and I’m so happy I did.
I made very poor choices previously when it came to food and also dieting. I would follow star ratings without even glancing at the ingredients, or start unrealistic habits, like shakes or not eating. that I just couldn’t maintain. My main focus was always the numbers, and I didn’t care what I did to get the numbers down.
This program was a completely different approach. I was taught how to read labels, what to look out for and what to avoid. I was shown what foods to have that are easy to maintain and are found in everyday life. What I found was the best challenge I overcame, was my focus went from obsessing over the numbers to making sure I put the right things in my body.
The 2 weeks of restrictive eating I dropped the weight but not body fat % and even lost some muscle mass. During the testing phase I strayed a bit and as a result had a little weight gain but lost some body fat % and gained back some muscle mass and still some cms off waist and hips. I was happy to focus on those gains and not fret over gaining kgs.
My biggest success is the mental gains I’ve made, and I’ve definitely changed my approach to ‘dieting’. It’s really cliché to say, but it’s not a diet but a lifestyle change.
My main end goal is to prepare my body for another round of IVF for baby #2. I’ve been given the tools I need, to know how to have a healthy life and make healthy choices and not do silly things to drop weight.
In all honesty not much has changed with me physically but I’m completely fine with that. I have strayed a bit but I have all the confidence in myself to be able to get back on track and most importantly I have the tools to do it sensibly.” – Gabrielle Hie
