Our Profile of the Month is the incredible Scott Toull. Scott has been training with Terrific Fitness, on and off, for over six years. In that time, I have watched Scott grow from a very young, shy and introverted man, to a mature, funny and not as shy amazing man, husband and father. He has come out of his shell and is now able to have a laugh with the rest of the training team without shying away so much.
When Scott first joined TF he had an array of injuries we needed to work around and with, in order to help him recover and be able to train at his fullest potential. Today, Scott is able to participate in every exercise and drill issued without having to take options. Though he still has some small restrictions due to historical injuries, they are no longer enough to hold him back. He gives everything a crack and always puts in 1000%. He is an absolute pleasure to train and never ever complains or whinges about anything. He tackles every drill head on and as a result has created some incredible changes within himself, mentally, emotionally and physically.
Since returning in July 2018, after a 2 year break, Scott has successfully dropped 31.5cm from around his body, 12cm of which was from his waist alone! That converts so 6kg of pure body fat. Scott is only 2kg away from his goal weight of 100kg standing 193cm tall. Friggen amazing work!
To say I am proud of Scott is a true understatement! What an incredible role model he is for his 2 beautiful children. I think the only other person as proud of him as I am is his wife Danni. Scott, you absolutely rock my love!!! Keep up the incredible work!
Here is Scott’s story in his words:
I have always been somewhat fit and played sport all my life but injuries forced me to stop playing in 2010 when I was 23. Being that young and not able to do the thing I loved wasn’t easy. At that point I had no form of exercise in my lifestyle and was eating a lot of junk food. My weight had ballooned out to 118 kilos and I felt terrible. I was always around the 75-80 kilo mark when I was playing. I have always lacked self-motivation when it came to the gym and exercising outside of my sport. I had very little self-esteem and avoided exercising as much as I could because I felt ashamed of how I looked.
In Jan 2012 my daughter was born. It was around this time that I realised I needed to change and quickly or I wouldn’t be around to see her grow up. But being a shy person I wasn’t about to go and put myself out there with just anyone. It was during a conversation with a few friends that they mentioned they had just started doing group fitness with Terrific Fitness and I should give it a go. They brought home a timetable and enrolment forms which I filled out but due to my unwillingness to put myself out there I never handed them in. It was not long after that I hit rock bottom both mentally and physically. My weight pushed out to 124kilos and I wasn’t coping with the big life change.
I knew I needed to do something for the sake of my daughter so I signed up for 2 classes per week doing fitness circuit and cardio boxing. I struggled at first as I couldn’t do up my shoelaces without being puffed. After a few weeks training I started to feel better but my eating habits hadn’t changed. My wife was diagnosed with coeliac disease and had to eliminate a lot of things from her diet so I followed suit to make things easier and as not to contaminate her. I noticed some massive changes to how I felt immediately and started to see some big results which made me start to feel better. I had muscle testing done by Terri and found out I had a lot of food allergies and intolerances. That’s when I made more changes to my diet and I cut out all my allergy foods. It was pretty tough to begin with but once I started feeling better it was a no brainer.
I have been training on and off with Terrific Fitness now for 6 years. If it wasn’t for Terrific Fitness I hate to think where I might be now.
My eating habits have completely changed although still a work in progress. My mindset is much more positive and my self-esteem has changed a lot. For the past 2 years I have been back playing football which I didn’t think I would ever be able to do again. I am still on the road to a big weight goal for me of 100 kg which I am close to ticking off.
Training with TF gets me out of my comfort zone because it’s an environment I can’t control and I always worry about what other people think of me. But once I am there and training all my worries go away because I feel so welcomed and comfortable because everyone there is there for the same reasons.
I can’t recommend TF enough. It is nothing like a normal gym or fitness centre. It’s one big community that all support each other. For anyone thinking of starting with TF I say what are you waiting for? It’s the start of the rest of your life.” Scott Toull, Mernda
