When Jackie first started training at TF 5 years ago, she was lacking in motivation, confidence and was struggling with an array of injuries. Taking up Personal Training and Group Fitness Classes we worked closely with Jackie to help rebuild her confidence and re-ignite her passion for training and fire up her motivation. Five years on, Jackie has unfortunately suffered more injuries (you will read more about those in her write up below), but she is still training hard and still improving her hell and well-being despite the injuries. Jackie is a tower of strength and won’t let these limitations hold her back. Life is for living, and that is just what Jackie is doing! From a self-conscious unmotivated woman to an absolute powerhouse! Jackie, you are an absolute inspiration! I am so proud of how far you have come! Keep up the amazing work! – Coach Terri

“Hi my name is Jackie and this is my story….
I have been a member/client at terrific Fitness for a few years now. Prior to coming to TF, I had played sport 4 nights/days and trained 2 nights a week for years. I played Rep ball(basketball), State league netball and section 1 tennis. At the age of 20, I snapped my first ACL in my left knee. I had to stop playing all the high level sport, but kept playing tennis and local netball. At the age of 23 I snapped the right knee ACL. At that point I stopped sport completely. I was devastated but I had travel and work to consider.
Over time my weight ballooned. In my early 30’s I injured my back; 2 bulging discs in my back due to work (lifting analysers). I was very unhappy and unmotivated. I knew I had to do something so I Googled PTs near Mill Park. 2 came up and one was Terrific Fitness. I rang and spoke to Tania and Terri. I was invited to the studio to have a look and have a discussion on what I wanted.
I had looked at regular gyms but I knew with my injuries I could not work out in them as there would be no one to make sure I was doing the exercises the correct way therefore I would and could injure myself more.
Terri and Tania showed me around. There was paperwork I had to fill in and I also had to get a letter of clearance from my doctor before I was able to train. This made me more comfortable with training as it gave me confidence in the trainers.
Since my very first class I have loved the environment at Terrific Fitness. It is a large family. Everyone gets to know each other. I felt comfortable and safe to be myself. (My loud sometimes inappropriate self.)
I was going great at PT and all the classes and was starting to see results in my fitness, shape and weight, when again, I snapped my left knee ACL, (the re-modelled one), walking my lovely Dogue de Bordeaux (Lisa and Danni) . I was advised that the surgeon was not going to replace the ligament, so I was to train and walk without the ACL.
Everyone at TF came together and they worked out exercises that I could do and not feel left out. But that was not the end of my injuries. (I swear if I was an animal, I would probably have been given the big sleep at this stage.) I also suffered with De Quervain’s disease in my right wrist, and then recently after a fall, fracturing my Right Distal Radius and dislocating my wrist. Terrific Fitness has been there throughout.
They support you and they modify exercises to accommodate you (trust me on this, most of the time the modified exercises are harder than the original).
The Family of Terrific fitness has always been there to support me through everything, but not only to support, but to push me to be better, and to do better, and best of all to feel better.
Training is not just running, jumping, lifting and food, it is a mindset, and you need that family around you to make sure your Mindset is where it needs to be, to be that better person. This is why I am still a member/client/family member and friend of Terrific Fitness; they make you a better version of yourself. Even with injuries.” – Jackie McPherson
