Lauren joined TF almost 2 years ago. In this time, we have seen her transform her mindset completely! Lauren has evolved and flourished, being an incredible role model for her kids. Her shift in mindset has also increased her confidence which is evident just in how she smiles, looks and stands. She has a new zest for life and I can’t wait to see how far she takes her determination and commitment. The Conquer Your Mindset Workshop, was a huge game changer for Lauren! Congratulation Lauren! Here is Lauren’s story in her words:
“I’d been training with another small local gym for a few years and loved the personal touch it had but things were changing and it wasn’t fitting in with my lifestyle anymore, so I needed to find something else. I joined another bigger gym but hated that no one cared if I was there or not. The classes were boring and I had no drive to train myself, it was just boring and busy. I was clearly just another member to them. So, the hunt was on for a new gym, I did a google search and TF came up, it then started appearing all over Facebook. I sat on it for a bit as I’ve always put off starting something new due to nerves and the unknown. But the ads kept coming up every time I was on Facebook, so I took that as a sign that it was where I was meant to try next. The big tick for me was they had a kid’s room, which meant I no longer had to worry about getting someone to watch the kids so I could look after myself, cos they could come and see me do it.
Initially I joined for the kid’s room, but when I went there for a tour and sat down with Danni for a chat, I knew that this was what I needed. Small, friendly, intimate and they actually gave a crap about me. I’ve been at TF for almost 2 years now. The way the team has supported everyone through 6 lockdowns has been amazing. Being able to continue to train at home with either the zoom classes or doing a workout with the app just makes training so flexible and a blessing particularly with the stress of juggling working from home and remote learning. There’s no other gym out there where you will get this level of attention and it’s exactly what I needed to keep me on track with my goals, especially in the cooler months when it becomes a lot harder to get yourself moving. I love that someone will check in on me if I haven’t been to training for a few days. That personal touch makes all the difference.
My biggest lesson so far is learning that a lot of what we succeed and fail in, comes from your mindset. Your mindset is so important to succeed in your goals. I’ve had many hiccups along the way but once I get back on track, things look up. I’m now trying to make it a priority to be kind to myself and allow myself to feel my emotions instead of eating them. It is definitely hard work but something I’m really trying to focus on.
The biggest challenge for me and one that I set for myself, was to stop focusing on the number on the scale and letting that number define me. I rarely weigh myself anymore at home as this has always had a negative impact on me and can really make or break my day. I now do a fortnightly BCA (Body composition Analysis) in my PT session with Coach Emilia and we never discuss that number because to me it is irrelevant; how I feel means so much more. I now try to put my focus on what I’m eating and how I’m feeling, rather than that number and Coach Emilia has been nothing but supportive.
My training at TF is not always consistent as my personal needs change weekly. I’ve always tried to do 2-3 group sessions a week and do a fortnightly PT with Coach Emilia. Sometimes I train less, it just depends on what’s happening in my life for the week. Since joining TF I have participated in the nutrition bootcamp and learnt what foods my body likes and doesn’t like. What I have learnt from that experience has shaped the way that I now eat. I went from snacking all the time to eating 4 meals a day, gained so much energy and felt clearer mentally. Yes, I have had hiccups along the way and veered off track, but I try to keep all my meals as focused on what it should be made up of even if I’m having off days, or weeks. And Emilia has been there to guide and cheer me on the whole way. I’m very grateful to have found Terrific Fitness.” – Lauren Trivett
