Nitin is a Personal Training (PT) client coached by Coach Steve twice weekly. Nitin started out in March of 2021 and came to Terrific Fitness (TF) after recent back surgery. His lower body was restricted in movement, he found it difficult to bend down or squat to pick things up from the floor. Picking up his infant son and carrying him for only a short time before he needed to rest and he could not bear the weight for too long, causing tiredness and discomfort in his lower back. Tight muscles particularly in his hamstrings, weakness in his general strength, looking for guidance in eating habits, and a lost sense how to start out with general fitness, Nitin came to TF to help sort out a pattern of knowledge to get started and set out a sequence of better health and improve qualities of a healthy lifestyle.
Starting the PT journey with Nitin was like starting with a clean slate. Between Nitin and myself, we quickly figured out how to improve movement patterns and got his body moving better and then built structure around a program that steadily built strength, enthusiasm and enjoyment for each session. I’m glad that my steady program has given Nitin that vision of steady accomplishment that has seen his progress get better and better and that he can see his movement, strength, and body shape develop over time. He quick developed a good sense of better food knowledge, eats with much better mindfulness and has found a routine and habit of looking forward to the next session. As his coach, I set the mark just that little bit higher every session and he responds very well to the challenges that I know are within his capacity. For example: he started out struggle to do 5 good pushups at the beginning of the year to now doing more than 40 pushups in sets with a 10kg weight vest.

Here is Nitin’s story in his words:
“Before I came to TF my main challenge I faced was my restriction in movement and pain after my back surgery and was very unsure of what exercises I could do. I was stiff in movements and had pain in doing day to day stuff such as walking up the stairs. I wanted to get more strength in my legs be able to pick up my son with more confidence.
Not too long after starting the PT program with Steve I gained back the movement and it helped me with better ability to pick up my son, walking up the stairs, standing for extended time and I feel stronger and have more energy. I can now handle the shopping center, compared to a year ago, where I had to sit down and wait while my wife did the shopping. Now I can go around the shopping center for a few hours with shopping bags and lots of walking around. I’m more flexible in picking things up off the floor and house chores. Even moving the vacuum cleaner with the back and forward action was difficult before, now it’s much easier.
My eating habits have improved because I’ve been working out. I eat more vegetables now compared to before, which I never really used to do. I’ve become more aware of sugar in foods and don’t consume them anymore and I try to eat for my training more now. I’ve cut down a lot on alcohol and rarely have sugary drinks now. I look forward to working out and have good satisfaction afterwards. Having the sense of freedom to do the movements is satisfying.” – Nitin Jethwani
