I often hear ‘I’m not sure what I want my next goal to be’ after someone has achieved their goal. It is easy to get caught up in the moment after achieving a goal, and you should absolutely celebrate it! But keeping a clear focus to keep bettering yourself is important to get the best version of yourself. It is easy to become complacent after success but using that feeling of triumph to push yourself further is a tool that is sometimes forgotten.
So how do we start this? Easy! A three-step goal process. 90-days, 1-year and 3-year goals.
Your 3-year goals should be your big long-term goals, 1-year goals will be your medium sized goals and 90 days being your short-term goals. The trick is that your 90-day goals should link with your 1- year goals, and both your 90 days and 1-year goals to link into with your 3-year goals.
For example, my personal goal at the moment is to buy a new house. My 90-day goal is to knuckle down on my finances and save at least $10,000 in my first 90-days. My 1-year goal is to save enough for a deposit and purchase land. My 3-year goal is to be living in my forever home.
Its easy to reach my 90-day goal and then get so wrapped up in excitement of starting to save money, that I forget what to do next. Now that I have a clear goal in mind, I know exactly what steps I need to take and never have the thought of, ‘What next?’
Think about this, the next time you are pondering about what goal you want to achieve, think of all the short term goals that are going to help you achieve that big goal. Eliminate the ‘What next?’
