Ever have those days where all you feel like you do is give and give and give and then you come to the end of the day and think why am I so exhausted!?
Picture this, you have a nice thirst quenching 2litre jug of water. You pour a little into your kids cups, a little into your partners cup, a little more into your boss and fellow employees cup, a little into your friends cup, a little in your parents cup, a little into your siblings cup.. you go to pour your into your own cup and you get a measly little drop of water.
That jug of water is a representation of your yourself, your energy, and your time. Where in that time of you pouring water into everyone else’s cup did you stop and pour yourself a drink? Now you are tired and thirsty, but who is going to pour into your cup?
When you try to make things better for a lot of people, you may end up making things worse for yourself. A little self-sacrifice is noble but depriving yourself of too much will only leave you depleted. Sometimes people do not even realize that you need something, because you are the one that is always giving. Self-preservation is not selfish, its essential for living a full and happy life.
The person in life that you will always be with the most, is yourself. Do not forget to have ‘you time’. It is extremely important to have down time or do the things that you enjoy. Meditate, train, read a book, meal prep, go for a walk, dance, sing… the list is endless.
It does not mean you are selfish. Taking time out for yourself does not mean ‘me first’… it means ‘me too’.
Whose cup are you going to pour first?
